Stolen Vehicle Recovered

A 2002 Honda that was stolen from residence in Petitcodiac on June 21 was recovered on Adam Rd. in Four Corners. There was extensive damage to the vehicle and the stereo was removed form it. No suspects. The investigation is continuing

Vehicle Fire

Sussex Fire Department and RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle fire at a residence on Plumweseep Rd. No one is living in the residence at the present time and the vehicle had been parked there for over a month. No suspects. The investigation is continuing.

Visitors in Sussex

Despite the weather 29 tourists from the “Grandeur of the Seas” Cruise ship enjoyed their time in Sussex yesterday. The visitors came from all around to see the covered bridges and other attractions in Sussex. After a long day of sight seeing the guests had lunch at the Broadway Cafe. William Crouch from the Covered Bridge information center says it was a great turnout and he is excited for the next cruise ship to arrive on July 30th.

Single Vehicle Moose Colision- Update

District 3 RCMP are continuing to investigate a serious injury motor vehicle moose collision that occurred on the Rte. 114, Mechanic Settlement on June 17 A citizen who heard the description of the vehicle and female victim on the radio contacted police with a possible name. As a result, Police were able to confirm the victim as a 32 year old female from the Mechanic Settlement area. The victim remains in hospital in the Intensive Care Unit.

B&E in Springdale

Sometime between January 1, 2009 and June 18, a camp on Sea Farm Rd.in Springdale, was broken into. The windows of the camp were smashed out and the camp was in disarray. No suspects. The investigation is continuing.

Bus Service Not Offered To All Students In The Fall

In the fall any students in middle school or high school will not be offered a school bus service if they live within 2.4 kilometer of their school. This distance has increased from last year from 1.6 to 2.4 km. According to Stephen Evans the District 6 transportation manager it is the responsibility of the parents to walk their children to school, to find them a drive to school etc. Due to this new change three buses in the district have been eliminated from the system. These changes take effect in the fall for the beginning of the new school year.

Attempted B & E in Penobquis

Sussex police are searching for suspects in an attempted break and enter that occurred on Canada Packers Road in Penobquis. At some point between 6pm on June 13^th and 10:25am on June 14^th, someone tried to gain entry through the window of a residence. It is suspected that a dog at the home may have scared off the intruder. The investigation is continuing.

Vehicle leaves accident scene

Sussex RCMP and Crime Stoppers are looking for a black vehicle that hit a hydro pole on Fowler Avenue. The vehicle struck the pole sometime between 6 and 6:30am on Sunday and then left the scene. The driver’s side was damaged from the collision. An investigation has revealed no information on the vehicle or driver. If you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Theft of a vehicle in Picadilly

Sometime between 10pm on June 13 and 1am on June 14, a vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Orchard Crescent in Picadilly. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Wards Creek Road in Wards Creek. It had all of its windows and lights smashed. No suspects have been found. The investigation is ongoing.

Update on Elsie Meehan case

An elderly Smiths Creek woman charged with allegedly stabbing her niece has had her psychiatric assessment extended. After three days of being assessed in jail, 71-year-old Elsie Meehan is being sent to a Restigouche psychiatric facility for further assessment. Judge Henrik Tonning reviewed her doctor’s report the morning of her June 12 fitness hearing, where he ruled that she was not yet fit to stand trial. Meehan will be back in Sussex court on July 9^th for another fitness hearing.
